Learn to create a CRUD App using Node.js and MongoDB, including the process for creating a MongoDB database.

  • Learning how to build a CRUD app in Node.js with MongoDB is like embarking on a journey of backend development ๐Ÿš€.
  • MongoDB, a popular open-source database, stores data in JSON-like documents with dynamic schemas ๐Ÿ“.
  • Connecting Node.js to MongoDB is as easy as 1-2-3, and it’s ready to roll on port 3000 ๐Ÿ”„.
  • MongoDB Atlas makes database creation and connection a breeze, and we’re just getting started ๐ŸŒŸ!

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ MongoDB Database Creation

In this video tutorial, we delve into the process of building a CRUD application in Node.js with a MongoDB database. This approach covers all aspects from fetching, inserting, updating, to deleting data, making it a comprehensive example for those looking to learn web development from scratch. MongoDB, an open-source NoSQL database program, falls under the category of document-oriented databases, storing data in JSON-like documents with dynamic schemas. We embark on a journey of mastering backend development using the powerful tools of Node.js and MongoDB.

In this first part of our series, we guide you through the essential steps of creating a MongoDB database from scratch. Let’s get started!

MongoDB Database Creation Process

StepDetails
1Click on "Start for Free" button on the MongoDB website
2Fill in the registration form details
3Click on "Create Your Atlas Account" button
4Verify the email address by clicking on the verification link
5Proceed through the welcome and basic questions
6Click on "Create Database" and select the free option
7Create a secure user and password for the database
8Select "My Local Environment" and add our IP address
9Get the connection string for MongoDB database

Once the database is deployed, we connect to it, and create a server.js file to include the necessary libraries, such as Express, body-parser, and Mongoose, for our CRUD application.

We then proceed to connect our Node application to the MongoDB database. Upon successful connection, we check the connection and confirm the running port number.

๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ Setting up the Node Application and Database Connection

In the server.js file, we install the Express framework and Mongoose library for MongoDB database connection. We create an object of the Express framework and define the port for running the Node application. Then, we add the body-parser middleware to pass incoming request bodies and serve static files from the current directory.

With the connection to the MongoDB database established, we handle any connection errors and log the successful connection message.

Node Application and Database Connection Process

StepDetails
1Install Express framework and Mongoose library
2Create an object of the Express framework and define the port
3Include body-parser middleware for passing request bodies
4Serve static files using the Express framework
5Connect the Node application to MongoDB database
6Handle connection errors and log successful connection message

With the Node application successfully connected to the Cloud MongoDB database, we are set to proceed with the CRUD operations in the next part of the tutorial.

Stay tuned for the next part, where we will cover how to insert data into the MongoDB database under our Node CRUD application. Happy coding!
