AWS is like the coolest kid in school, boasting over 200 products and services including compute, storage, networking, and databases. Imagine AWS’s global cloud infrastructure like the mother ship, with data centers worldwide. The cherry on top? AWS offers a range of services from EMR for big data to Amazon Fraud Detector for fraud prevention. It’s a one-stop shop for all things cloud computing. π

Toggleπ Overview of the AWS Cloud Computing Platform
In this lecture, we will understand the AWS cloud computing platform with respect to categorizing some main AWS Services.
- Global Cloud Infrastructure: AWS’s Global cloud infrastructure is its core Foundation. It is challenging to imagine AWS’s leadership position in the cloud computing platform without the global cloud infrastructure.
Feature | Description |
---|---|
AWS region | Data centers in multiple locations all over the world |
Availability Zone | Concept of local zones, wavelength, and outposts |
π₯ Foundation Services
At a high level, AWS has common services primarily in the compute, storage, security, access control, and networking categories. For example, in the compute category, AWS has the EC2 service for launching virtual machines on the cloud. AWS also offers an autoscaling service and elastic load balancer.
Category | Services |
---|---|
Compute | EC2, Autoscaling, Elastic Load Balancer |
Storage | S3, EBS, Archival Service |
Security & Access | IAM, Secrets Manager, Certificate Manager |
Networking | NAT Gateway, Direct Connect |
π Platform Services
Under the database category, AWS has a variety of services such as RDS for relational databases and DynamoDB for noSQL databases. Similarly, it offers various other services under application, deployment, management, mobile, AI, ML, and IoT categories.
- Database Services: RDS, DynamoDB, ElasticCache, EMR
- Application Services: SQS, SNS
- Deployment & Management: ECS, CloudWatch
- Mobile Services: Location service, API Gateway, AWS Amplify
- AI & ML Services: Amazon SageMaker, Amazon Comprehend, Forecast
In conclusion, I discussed a high-level overview of some popular services in different categories, providing ample information for the scope and objective of this lecture.
